Become a domestic renewable energy advisor

The ‘Green Residential’ franchise will equip suitable candidates with the qualifications and skills to become a domestic renewable energy advisor; providing advice to home owners on how to reduce their energy consumption through behavioural changes and property improvements, including the provisions of renewable energy technologies.

Green Residential advisors also provide services to help homeowners and landlords to meet their green legal obligations.

This package has been specifically designed to target the services required by home owners who are looking to reduce their home’s energy bills and carbon footprint, with the support of government grants or government-backed green energy initiatives.

The Government’s Heat and Energy Saving Strategy outlines a plan for meeting a target of a 29% reduction of carbon emissions from the household sector by 2020, and is largely concentrated on improving the efficiency of energy used for heat in the home. To meet these targets, between 400,000 and 1.8 million homes a year will have to be upgraded, which will include cavity wall and loft insulation and renewable energy technologies, in addition to educating the public on how to change their energy consumption behaviour.

Furthermore, with the government’s introduction of the Feed In Tariffs (FITS) and Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), residents can now not only save but also earn money by ‘Going Green’.

Servicing a combination of self-generated local clients, Green Assess website leads and Green Assess national account clients; this franchise opportunity enables suitable candidates to earn from three distinct, but complimentary, green business areas.

1. Green Deal Advisor / Green Deal Assessor

Set to be the largest home improvement programme since the second world war, the Green Deal promises to drive billions of pounds of investment into energy efficiency over the next decade with the potential to create 250,000 jobs involving around £100 billion investment by 2020

As bills rise and green subsidies are cut, politicians have been looking at ways to reduce our bills - and emissions - at no or little cost.

By providing energy advice to an estimated 14 million homes and businesses within the UK and offering grants to all, the new innovative financial mechanism eliminates the need to pay up front for these energy efficiency measures and instead provides reassurances that the cost of the measures will be covered and paid back through the savings on the electricity bill. The government have called this revolutionary proposal 'The Green Deal'.

The government have committed to invest £200 million this year alone to stimulate the 'Green Deal' on its launch in Autumn, with a further £14 billion of private investment being predicted.

The goal of the Green Deal scheme is to have 14 million UK households upgraded for energy efficiency making the UK European leaders in reducing greenhouse emissions and supporting up to 250,000 new jobs within the green industry.

2. Energy Performance Certificates

Energy Performance Certificates are now legally required for all residential properties that are put onto the market for sale and to let. An EPC can also be conducted in tandem with a renewable energy audit (as both use the same methodology) to help further identify areas of improvement to a property.

Only qualified Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) can conduct these surveys. The franchise training programme incorporates the Level 3 Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment.

3. Inventories / Conditions of Schedule

Since the introduction of the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) in April 2007, it is essential that landlords in addition to an EPC also have an accurate and up-to-date inventory for all let properties. In the event of a dispute, the inventory provides evidence to support the Landlord’s or Tenant’s case, making disputes quicker and easier to resolve.

The Green Residential training programme incorporates Inventory training to enable our franchisees to offer a complete ‘one stop shop’ to landlords/letting Agents and Solicitors.
